written after getting underway on Dec 30. Yesterday was a good driving day. The traffic was much lighter, the sun was shining, and the passengers were happy. We started in Carlisle, PA and stopped in Salem/Roanoke, VA.
The campground in Carlisle, PA. That's all the good I can say about it. Padlocked bath house? Really? For $40 per night? So, enough said about that experience. Well - since we had to use the RV's own facilities, we had to keep the water supply on and something froze so we were mopping up water and squeezing it out of the carpet at 3 AM. But, Opa Henk, always handy with the techie stuff, got the water pump working again at the first rest stop where we went for toileting and gallons of flush water.
Knowing how to deal with power outages in NE does help in unexpected ways, I guess!
In the afternoon we visited a fantastic cavern in Virginia, Grand Caverns in the town of Grottoes. The kids loved it. After which an accident on I 81 slowed us down, we cooked supper at a truck stop, and got to the campground in Salem at about 8:30 PM, the small passengers already sleeping like angels. A tiny campground with a warm bathhouse. Yeay.
