Oct. 11, Friday. The sun shines again! Lovely day. Various
bison near the campground, and a young
northern harrier – I looked it up, I didn’t have that one yet on my bird list.
We go on an early beach stroll with our morning coffee, a midday trip to the
visitor center parking lot to connect to the internet, and a late afternoon
hike around the tip of the island. I am in front as the buffalo-doodoo spotter,
Opa is the buffalo spotter. This works out well ;) and I have more work…
Corn chowder and cheese biscuits for dinner. Yum. We
pan-fried the biscuits a la spoonbread, with reasonable success. The RV parts
have arrived in Tucson and Opa tries to make an appointment for them being put
in in San Diego. I don’t understand why people think this is so unusual…
Oct 12 and 13. We’re still in the same place, and have more
bison encounters. Also more mule deer, an unknown hawk, four water birds
(haven’t id’d them yet either) and a jackrabbit. We went on a great hike yesterday
and on the way back there were three bison next to the path… we waited a bit
until they crossed… don’t want to be in front of them. We made a shopping trip
too, we figured, we’re in Latter Day Saint country, the stores might well be
closed on Sundays. And of course we had to get a little birthday cake for Opa’s
birthday! This morning we had a lovely birthday breakfast, went to a great
church for Mass, had a lovely birthday lunch, followed by tea and birthday
carrot cake (sour cream frosting, yum), quick visit to the visitor center for a
nice hike route but then we found it too
cold for a hike, did a few games of rummikub instead, and enjoyed a lovely
birthday dinner. Opa fielded many birthday calls as well. Now we’ve just given
up watching the Red Sox, it looks like they’re going to lose again. We’re
hoping for some nice football highlights before the day is over… at least the
Pats won!
