We made it. We got to the Dixon's street at about 5:30 PM (new time zone again). Ordered pizza, ate, and got to bed early. Our brains are still one or two time zones behind...
Yesterday we mostly drove through desert. It was like driving through a bowl, slightly rising to the mountain groups the edges. At Palm Springs there was snow on the tops at both sides, magnificent to look at. We stopped at Hadleys for yummy stuff including, of course, a date shake, and after this Deirdre took the navigator seat because we were heading into the L.A. area. By far the most bumpy roads of the trip!
This morning we brought the RV to a very friendly Fleetwood dealer to have the leveling jacks repaired/replaced, as well as a sprinkling of minor things. They're calling back and forth with the insurance and the dealer we bought it from, back in Rhode Island, because everybody thinks somebody else should pay for it. We'll see how that develops. Meanwhile Opa and I checked out some places that bill themselves as RV parks - they are more mobile home places with RVs for mobile homes, and they don't really want somebody for a mere three months. There is however a lovely park 40 miles away, at the far side of the valley. 40 miles from Jeff and Deirdre and 40 miles from Agoura Hills, where Opa will go to work. So we're still looking for options. We have an extra day or so because the RV is in a holding pattern because of the insurance...
All this seems minor because it's 60 degrees and we walked outside in our shirts. Tonight we're sleeping at the Dixons and we'll see about the RV tomorrow.
And now that we're here, I remember the Christmas cards and Christmas letter...
I love your blog. Are you planning on keeping it up through your lay over? I hazard to guess three months is a bit more than a lay over, but traveling by RV has a totally different time-line... Glad you all made it safe and sound. Hugs and kisses to all. Fight that insurance co. They are trained to deny claims and make you jump through hoops in hopes you drop the claim in frustration. Opa doesn't seem like the kind of guy to be pushed around by a desk jockey. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteps. I just took a peek at the Dutch version of your blog and noticed the length of posts is much longer. How many details are we missing in the English version, or is Dutch a less succinct language? Liefde u allen.
