Wednesday November 16

The early morning found me at the water's edge with my folding chair, trusty binocs, and bird book. And XL coffee. Poor Henk had a phone meeting... I enjoyed myself watching mallards and american coots and a few pairs of loons. They were calling each other too, what a great way to start the day. Also a heron on a pole, it was watching me but I sat tight so we were good with each other. Then there was a pair of pied-billed grebes, such little cuties. When I finished my coffee and started to get chilled I headed back, to find the bunnies already sunning themselves next to the RV. I guess they were cold too.
Later on we drove to Havasu City in search of the post office, a place that can weld a piece of the tow dolly back on, and a rent-a-boat outfit to ask how much it is to rent a small boat for a day. Post office, check; welding company, check, we'll do that tomorrow; renting a boat, $ 200 plus gas, hmm. Maybe not.

After lunch at the "Black Bear Diner", groceries at Albertson's next door, and a quick stop at the RV to refrigerate same, we drove 20 miles or so south to a piece of public land, to go search for rocks. Henk brought his computer and phone so he could keep up with work in between. Well, we didn't even search very long, and found four small pieces of petrified wood, a large & gorgeous lump of tumbled basalt, and various beautifully colored pebbles. On the way back we stopped by "Daniel's" for some fresh jerky, and when we were almost all the way to the campground we stopped at the Refuge's parking lot so Henk could focus on more calls. I amused myself with the binoculars in the meantime: the same birds as this morning, plus a great egret. There was a different kind of duck too, but dusk got deep fast and I couldn't make out the feathers well enough. No harm though, I had fun anyway. And on the campground road we even saw a small fox.

All in all an excellent day!
