Since the previous entry we drove through Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, a slice of Arkansas; and ended up in Oklahoma.
Wednesday evening Henk drove past Indianapolis and we parked for the night at another WalMart. Of course I went shopping again first thing in the morning - funny that, it seems I can always think of a few things I need... this time it was oatmeal and a laundry basket. I'm sure there are more things we will find out that we forgot. -> "We". Since I did the packing. *giggle*.
Henk was working most of the day yesterday so I did the driving; direction west southwest, mile after mile of cornstubbly agricultural prairie, interspaced with towns full of fast food restaurants and truckstops. My favorite road sign:
"Pickups rock.
And they roll.
Buckle up."
The sparse trees are still half in their reddish brown leaves, the other half blowing around in the steady, gusty northwest wind. By mid-afternoon my wrists were hurting from constantly having a tight grip on the steering wheel. Again Henk drove the last few hours. It was a pretty boring day. The only really nice piece of nature, well, we missed it because it's dark so early... se we promised ourselves from now on, only drive in daylight. If we want to see the U.S. we shouldn't drive through it at night!
All the same, we finally settled in a state park campground just on the Oklahoma side of the AR-OK border ar rte 40 and put the slides out to change the bus into a house. Aahhh. Plugged into the AC and went to bed. We'll register this morning.
The plan today is to take a day off to go see the Sequoyah Wildlife Refuge on the south side of the highway. We'll wear red jackets because it's hunting season. It's sunny and cool, but it's still early, so we hope for a pleasant Fall day.
